4-H National Science Day

All of the tools that you need to run the 4-H National Science Day experiment can be found at: 4-H National Youth Science Day

When we ran this experiment at State Fair we found it helpful to make up some posters. The pdfs for those posters can be found below and sent to your local printer for 2' x 3' printing.

A few helpful hints:

      • Be sure that you have the right size bottles.  Plastic bottles do come in a variety of sizes.  You need 20 oz bottles for this experiment.
      • We found covering our tables with plastic covering was very helpful -- as the yeast and sugar and water sometimes...got all over.
      • Also a good idea to keep paper towels, sponges and other clean up supplies handy (see comment above).
      • We had as a part of the display a biofuels game and live and pelleted switchgrass.  They added interest and gave more things to do while the balloons were inflating.  A puzzle or coloring handout might also be useful, or could be used instead (couldn't find any when I looked for some...if you find one...send it to me - I'll post).
